My Mistake

Friday night specials at the Plough & Stars
He bought me a drink from across the bar
He sidled up, said "Have I met you someplace?"
"Don't think so," I said; he said, "My mistake"

A drink or two later we went to his car
Those one-dollar drafts took him one step to far
He took me by force, then he looked at my face
"I thought no meant yes," he said, "my mistake"

I shook my head clear as I climbed from the car
Found the piece in my purse, said, "You've pushed me too far"
A gunshot, a big surprised look on his face
Said, "I thought it was empty; my mistake"
